Hillary Scott - Principal Heck Yes’er*

Hey! I’m Hillary and I run Heck Yes, Ya’ll LLC from my home office on Long Island. I am a creative empath who loves to ameliorate pretty much anything that needs ameliorating via creativity.

Before launching HYY I worked as a graphic designer for The Trevor Project, coordinated walkathons at Autism Speaks and dabbled a little in the sleep healthcare field.

Throughout college I worked mostly jobs that required hands on interaction with individuals who were some combination of Deaf, blind and developmentally disabled.

October 2015 - approximately 1 month postpartum

A huge piece of why I started Heck Yes, Y’all LLC (formerly SassyGreenLady LLC) stemmed from a seriously sucky battle with PMADs (perinatal mood and anxiety disorders),* specifically postpartum anxiety and depression. This overwhelmingly dark and isolating time period left me feeling like a shell of a human - essentially, a ghost.

I went undiagnosed for a year. Once I was diagnosed, I received the wrong treatment so 2015-2017 is a bit of a blur. I legitimately thought to myself, “I must have traded myself as a person for motherhood. I guess I just suck now.” I pride myself in not sucking most of the time so this experience was especially difficult but I powered through within this new and highly undesirable homeostasis.

Within weeks of conceiving my second baby my depression took a hard nose dive and I realized everything I was and had been feeling was not sustainable. I explored a different course of treatment - including talk therapy and a weekly support group - and it was successful. I am lucky to have privilege of access to the services that lead me to recover over the course of a year and a half. Many people do not.

*PMADs (perinatal mood and anxiety disorders) include depression, anxiety, OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), psychosis or any combination of these illnesses.

Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders are among the most common mental health conditions encountered by women of reproductive age. When left untreated, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders can have profound adverse effects on women and their children, ranging from increased risk of poor adherence to medical care, exacerbation of medical conditions, loss of interpersonal and financial resources, smoking and substance use, suicide, and infanticide. Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders are associated with increased risks of maternal and infant mortality and morbidity and are recognized as a significant patient safety issue. (NIH)
