Atonement

Last week’s post received a ton of positive feedback so thanks to everyone who reached out to me in support and solidarity! That took a lot of energy and vulnerability for me to write, and I’m sure it was a little heavy to read.

In 2020 I will continue to let go of sh*t from the past and to lighten things up a bit this week, I’m sharing a small sampling of music I once thought was good but is actually really terrible.

I can only muster the humiliation of admitting to these 5 songs right now, but perhaps I will share more at a later time.

Ready? ::cringe::

Why, Hillary?

  • The Juliana Theory - August in Bethany
Like, scream-singing this song in my freshman year dorm room. And I meant it.

Your eyes, they see my souuuuuuuuuuul!

    Jesus, Hillary…

  • KoRn - Freak on a Leash (or really any KoRn songs, for that matter)

Something takes a part of me
You and I were meant to be
    A cheap f*ck for me to lay…

I could have sworn that the lyrics started with “Archie butt,” not “a cheap f*ck” so that clears up a lot more for me now.

  • The Spice Girls - 2 Become 1
For the record, I would totally still do karaoke to this song. So I mean, I guess this counts as a guilty pleasure.

I can feel you judging me right now.

…I’m not saying you’re wrong; I’m just saying I know you’re doing it.

I can’t with this one. ::shakes head in shame::

  • Dashboard Confessional - Screaming Infidelities
This is another song that I would belt out, usually while driving. I saw him perform during the summer of 2001 and I don’t know if the lyrics could have hit me harder, which is really embarrassing.

Your haiiiiir, it’s everywheeeeeeeeere! Screaming infidelities and taking its wear!

Atonement

To make up for that (and to make sure that you finish this by reading about the music I listen to today in hopes that you’ll forget about all that sh*t above,) here are a few random recommendations based on songs I could listen to twenty times in a row and still freakin’ love them. I’ll link them in the song titles because you should listen to them.

Hospital Beds - Cold War Kids

I suspect I love this song so much because I’m a sucker for most music with a piano and/or strings, mostly because I play cello (for those who didn’t know and who may give even like, a micro-sh*t about things I do outside of designing and watching The Golden Girls.)

Also, I just found some sheet music for it so stay tuned.

You’re welcome!
